Hey folks
The final ever Write of Passage writing bootcamp kicks off on October 7th. And registrations close on Monday. It’s going to be the best bootcamp we’ve had—the most refined curriculum, the largest and most diverse cohort—and I’m starting to prepare by getting myself in the most creative mood possible.
With that in mind, I’ve been looking back at some creative tools I’ve used in the past that have helped me get in the zone.
One of them is the Vision Board.
Whatever you’re doing with your one wild and precious life, you should create yourself a Vision Board.
The Vision Board was an idea proposed to me by my mentor at art school, John, and it can help you to understand and focus on your deeper desires and ambitions.
At first, making my Board took me well outside my comfort zone. It felt weird throwing together such a hodgepodge of seemingly random things. I kept looking over my shoulder to make sure nobody was watching.
But, I trusted in the process, and it turned out to be one of the most illuminating creative exercises I’ve ever done in my life.
When I look at the unlikely mix of references on the Board, I see the truest version of myself, and I get the warm feeling that perhaps anything is possible after all.
Here’s a picture of my Vision Board (I also refer to it as a “dream board”)
And if you’re interested, I’ve made a video to explain it to you (link at the bottom👇), and to give you an idea of how to make your own.
There are no rules around designing your Vision Board. Just add whatever feels right, whatever gets your blood flowing.
It doesn’t need to make rational or logical sense.
You do not need to show it to anybody.
As long as it’s helping you find the right connections and the meaningfulness of life as you see it, then it’s serving its purpose.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
Speak soon, hope it’s fruitful 🥭

Harrison, check out this book called The Source by Tara Swart (a neuroscientist). She’s described the power of a vision board in it. It’s a great read overall as well.
For a quick overview- Ali Abdaal’s podcast with Tara is also very interesting and she’s talked about it there as well.
I picked up making vision boards from her. She says to keep it beside your bed. And look at it everyday to have the maximum impact!
